How to allow remote access to your database from your own IP

How-to Databases remote accessmysqlfirewallip whitelist

The admin sets the node policy; with the "registered addresses only" policy you add the IPs allowed to reach MySQL.

By default MariaDB and PostgreSQL are not reachable from outside the server (ports 3306 and 5432 stay closed). Remote access is an explicit admin decision.

Steps (admin)

  1. Choose the node policy: closed (default), open to all or only registered IP addresses. The third is the safest.

Steps (client, with the third policy)

  1. Open Databases, Remote access.
  2. Add the public IP addresses that must connect (your office, your application server).
  3. Connect with a MySQL client to the node's hostname, using a database user you granted access to.

How it is protected

Two independent controls apply: the firewall only admits the registered addresses, and the MySQL grants are limited to those hosts. Removing a firewall rule alone does not expose your database.
