How to migrate from CWP to TNS Panel

How-to Migration cwpcentos web panelmigrationssh

Move accounts, sites, databases and mail from CentOS Web Panel to a clean TNS Panel server over SSH, with the old server serving meanwhile.

TNS Panel migrates server to server: you install it on a clean new server and import from the old one, which keeps serving customers. The old server is not modified, so if anything is wrong you point DNS back.

Steps

  1. Install TNS Panel on the new server (install guide).
  2. Take a read-only inventory of the old server. The first contact shows the old server's SSH fingerprint and refuses to continue:
panel migra-inventario -host old.example.com -panel cwp -usuario root
  3. Compare the fingerprint with the real one, shown on the old server by ssh-keygen -lf /etc/ssh/ssh_host_ed25519_key.pub, and run the command again adding -huella SHA256:.... There is no way to skip this check.
  4. Read the inventory: accounts, sites, databases, mailboxes, aliases and FTP accounts, plus what it could not read.
  5. Import an account, or let the admin interface do it under Migration:
panel migra-cuenta -host old.example.com -panel cwp -cuenta acme

Add -renombrar to change the name, -continuar to resume a stopped attempt, or -sin-archivos to build only the structure.

  6. Verify the result before touching DNS.
  7. Change the nameservers (or the A and MX records), keep the old server running until traffic has moved, and point DNS back to it if you need to return.

What CWP provides

The account, its plan and its reseller are read from CWP's own database. Over SSH no password hashes are copied: mailboxes and FTP accounts are recreated and their owners set new passwords.

FAQ

Do I lose the CWP reseller structure?

No. The reseller and plan are read from CWP and recreated when the source states them.

What if I do not have SSH access to the old panel?

Use a backup file or a single account: see migrating from a backup file and migrating one account without server access.

Can I use the same server?

No. A clean new server is required so you can fall back.
