How to install your own SSL certificate or generate a CSR
Generate a key and CSR for a commercial certificate, then upload the certificate, key and chain to a site.
Use this when you buy a certificate from a commercial authority instead of using the automatic Let's Encrypt one.
Steps
- Open Websites, site, Own certificate and use the CSR generator. The panel creates the private key and the signing request. The key is stored encrypted so it can be installed when the certificate arrives.
- Send the CSR to your certificate authority and complete its validation.
- When you receive the certificate and the chain, return to Own certificate and upload the certificate, the key and the chain.
- The panel checks that the key matches the certificate and that the chain closes. If it does not, nothing is installed.
- Open the site over HTTPS and check the certificate shown by the browser.
Notes
- If you generated the CSR in the panel you do not need to upload the key again.
- An uploaded certificate is not renewed automatically; you renew it with your authority before it expires. The advisor warns about certificates that are expired or about to expire.
